4 thoughts that can stop you succeeding.

As well as putting in a lot of hard work, success is nurtured by a state of mind. Here are 4 thoughts successful people avoid.

1. ‘It’s too difficult, this isn’t meant to be.’

Having seeds of doubt when the path to success isn’t smooth can be so detrimental to your psyche. It’s difficult, but successful people don’t let minor issues deter them from their end goal. They take challenges in their stride, tackle them head on, and never quit because it is difficult.

2. ‘I can’t leave my job.’

This is a classic excuse for not pursuing success. Yes having a job and steady income is important, but if you aren’t happy or pushing yourself in your role, it’s time to make a change. If you need time to find the right next step, plan ahead by putting money away to tide you over during the transition. This isn’t an obstacle if it is the right thing.

3. ‘I need approval from others.’

The most successful people don’t need validation from others, they are motivated by personal goals and that’s enough. Looking for approval from others in your career can limit your development, everyone will have an opinion - it’s up to you to look within.

4. ‘I don’t have the right experience.’

Yes for some career paths you need specific training or qualifications but these are never excuses for not doing something. If you need to retrain - do it, it will give you even more confidence to have the knowledge and experience required. Some even use this as an excuse due to lack of self-belief, when they are perfectly experienced. This is worse.

The likelihood is that all of us have thought at least one of the above in our careers at some point, and yes it is difficult to simply decide to be positive.
